New Year, New Crafts: 7 Beginner-Friendly Crafts to Try This Year
If you’re anything like me, the new year makes you want to refresh everything—your routines, your vibe, your “I’m totally going to be organized” energy… and yes, your hobbies too.
So if you’ve been wanting to get into crafting but didn’t know where to start (or you start and then quit because it’s too complicated), this list is for you. These are beginner-friendly crafts that are easy, satisfying, and don’t require a full craft room to pull off.
These items contain affiliated links. This is no extra cost to you, but helps me keep running my website. Thank you for your help.
1) Paint-by-Number (The “I Swear I Can Paint” Craft)

This is the easiest way to get a “wow” result without stressing about drawing or shading. It’s basically painting with training wheels and I mean that in the best way. Just follow the numbers paint and enjoy your painting at the end. It's worth it!
Supplies:
CraftDee Tip: Start with the big sections first—save the tiny details for when you’re in the zone.
2) Air-Dry Clay Trinket Dishes (Cute + Giftable)

Air-dry clay is one of those crafts that makes you feel like you’re doing something fancy… when it’s actually super simple. This is a super simple project that's so fun to make.
Supplies:
- Air-dry clay
- Clay tool kit (optional but helpful)
- Clay Glaze
-
Acrylic paint set
CraftDee Tip: Use a small bowl as a mold for the perfect dish shape.
3) Beaded Bracelets (The Netflix Craft)

This one is perfect when you want to be productive but also want to watch your show. Plus, stacked bracelets are always a vibe.
Supplies:
CraftDee Tip: Pre-stretch the cord before you start beading so your bracelet doesn’t loosen later.
4) Beginner-Friendly Vinyl Projects (Tumblers + Labels)

You don’t need to be a pro to make cute vinyl projects. Start with names, simple sayings, or pre-made decals. I personally prefer the premade vinyl stickers, they are super popular right now.
Supplies:
- Blank glass tumbler pack
- Permanent vinyl sheets or decal pack
- Transfer tape
- Weeding tools (optional)
CraftDee Tip: Keep it simple at first—one word + one cute little icon looks so clean.
5) Mini Canvas Painting Night (At Home, No Pressure)

Mini canvases feel less intimidating and they’re perfect for a craft night with friends or kids.
Supplies:
CraftDee Tip: Choose ONE simple theme (sunset, florals, mountains) and stick to 3–5 colors.
6) Beginner Embroidery Kits (So Relaxing)

Embroidery looks “Pinterest-level” but beginner kits make it easy because the pattern is already there. The beginner embroidery stitch kit will be hands on how to show you each stitch. Easy to reference back to it too.
Supplies:
CraftDee Tip: Pick a kit with the design already printed on fabric.
7) Sticker-by-Number Books (Low Mess, BIG Satisfaction)

This is the craft you do when you want to relax but don’t want to pull out paint, glue, glitter, and 47 other items. I actually love doing this with my kids. I find it satisfying.
Supplies:
- Sticker-by-number book
- Tweezers (optional but helpful)
CraftDee Tip: Work in small sections so you don’t lose your place.
If you needed a sign to try a new craft this year, this is it. Pick one from the list and do it this week. Not next month. Not “when you have time.” This week. 😉
Tell me which one you’re trying first!
